the spirit directory

The Spirit Directory was first formulated in 2025 in aim to hold and forage through the felt legacies (spirits) of Black lives and living, Black migrations and movements, figures and makings, resonances and emotions - in formalised space.

Each spirit is categorised and coordinated for readability into particular family groups, or types, with whom they share characteristics.

These types include:

• emotions, feelings + essence-possessions/programs

• human-based spirits (that relate directly to the ‘Human’ condition)

• animal-based spirits

• plants + fauna

• deities (which may share a combination of all 4 previous spirit types)

the hag - neutral monitor of the peripheries; places where reality converges, or threatens not to exist. (2026)
