How would you describe, or portray the wholeness of a rainbow’s beauty, to another?

You might speak of its mythological significance, perhaps point to the chemical occurrences that physically create a rainbow.

Or maybe formulate a sensory experience that mirrors the feeling of awe and wonder rainbows invoke in those who witness them - a dance, a perfume, a healing incantation or modality?

No matter how complete your interpretation of ‘rainbow’ might be, it would not and could not wholly mirror the embodied experience of seeing one with your own eyes.

And perhaps it does not need to.

Every person who is witness of a rainbow will have their own understanding of it.

What bild or concept of ‘rainbow’ their brain, or being composes in personal perspective would be dependent on an inexhaustible number of factors, including but not limited to one’s individual mood, understanding of ocular, weather-based phenomena and how much they believe personhood to be separate from what they know to be ‘nature’.

Discerned through questioned interaction with, of and to divination and other metaphysically rendered reflections on the unseen mechanical systems and makings that constrict what we know as ‘Life’, concrete + sugarcane is designed to function as a kind of mycelia - a comprehensive program, gallery, form of intimacy, repository of knowledge and occurrences taking place in the unconscious field of Black British existence, expanding through connection to the unique aptitudes of the multiple essence + spirit-based archetypes, relationships, governances and understandings retained by those that exist as part of the region, termed as ‘Black* Britain’.

Black Britain in our eyes is as ‘an interconnected collection of egregores that encompass and thus are psychically formulated, contributed to and wielded by the wide variety of populations, locations, experiences, personalities, gifts, histories, ancestries, personal belief systems, loyalties, feelings and understandings, from and of Black peoples, bodies, spirits and knowings that are both invisible and knowable in the regions that make up Britain.

To more accurately speak to the composition of what and who ‘Black Britain’ is composed of and thus what belongs with, comes from, births, and simultaneously shares life with us, we must also ask what ‘Blackness’ + ‘Britain’ are: and to that, there are no singular answers.

As opposed to examining both journeys and things through neat lenses that seek to smooth over the unsmoothable realities of our histories, we seek to listen to and sit by the bubblings of Blackness + Britain, find out what they are, encompass, seek to be (if anything) and where they share overlapping.

Communicated through pathways of questions, personal stories and ones from others, poetry, artwork, the ideals, terms and ideologies that you find here at, on and throughout this website act as explorations of the spirit trends of our cultural cores and ‘bloom events’, as a blended diaspora of people that share common spirits, psyches and experiences through shared ancestry and stories, and also have different and separate ones that reflect our personal individualities.
